Hi! Welcome to our Chick Adoption Program.

Occasionally we hatch a chick that needs a little extra help to get started in life. It may have a crooked toe or splay leg, or may have required assistance to hatch. We don't sell these chicks, nor do we kill them (which would be their fate at a large hatchery). Of course, we don't breed them, either, to avoid passing on any potential genetic issues. Instead, we give these chicks the help they need.

In the past, we would process these roosters and add the hens to our laying flock, where they would live a peaceful life hanging with their friends and laying our breakfast. 

​However, in 2021 we wanted to try something new. We recognized that many of us were experiencing increased financial hardship due to the pandemic. We created an adoption program as a small way to help folks in our community grow their flocks for free, and give these special chicks a loving home.

Our adoption program was a huge success, and it was a great joy to share these chicks with others, so we are excited to continue!

 This is a program for re-homing chicks with minor physical defects only--all chicks offered in our adoption program will be healthy and thriving and will have completed any treatments, such as for crooked toe, before being given to their forever home. We will let you know why the chicks are part of this program and what treatment, if any, they have received. 

All we ask of you is that the chicks have companionship. Chickens are incredibly social animals, and a single chick is an unhappy chick. We will offer chicks in pairs or trios whenever possible, either by grouping adoption program chicks together or pairing them with complimentary non-adoption chicks. Should this not be possible, we ask that you adopt a single chick ONLY IF you have chicks of similar age at home already, or if you are also purchasing chicks from us.
